The Ohio State Buckeyes football program has had no shortage of talent on the field in the past few years. However, their awards case is looking a little empty. Despite having some highly-ranked teams, they haven’t won the conference in the past few seasons. Seeing their rivals, the Michigan Wolverines, lift the national championship trophy can’t feel good either. The team got former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard on the transfer portal, and he was very candid that this season is “natty or bust.”

Ohio State QB Will Howard On Upcoming Season

The Ohio State Buckeyes haven’t won a national championship since 2014, when they were coached by Urban Meyer. This year’s team is one of the most talented in years. While attending the Manning Passing Academy, Will Howard acknowledged this team is full of talent, and that comes with high expectations.

“For us, it’s natty or bust. I mean, there’s no doubt in my mind.”

“We have all the talent. We have all the intangibles. Now, we’ve just got to go do it. I’m tired of hearing how talented we are and how good our team is. It’s about the work ethic and how we go to work every single day, and I think we’re doing the things that we need to to put ourselves in that position to be there at the end of the year and now we’ve just got to go do it.”

It isn’t that the Ohio State Buckeyes have been bad. In three straight seasons, they have finished 11-2, but more importantly, they have lost three straight times to Michigan. Furthermore, their record against good teams hasn’t been stellar. While they can beat up on the bottom feeders of the Big Ten, they cannot topple the conference’s elite.

2024 Schedule Outlook

The Ohio State Buckeyes do get a favorable schedule. They open up against the Akron Zips, and then battle Western Michigan, and Marshall. They open up conference play against Michigan State on the road and then tangle with Iowa at the Shoe. While the Big Ten has many tough teams, Ohio State doesn’t have a gauntlet like some do. Their non-conference schedule is full of easy wins. They do have some tough road games in Big Ten play. Ohio State has to travel to Eugene to face the Oregon Ducks early in the season and also have a date in Happy Valley. They do get Michigan at home, which should give them a slight advantage.

Because of the expansion of the College Football Playoff, there is a great chance that the Ohio State Buckeyes get in. However, it isn’t enough for this team to be in. They are expecting to win. Head coach Ryan Day’s seat is getting a little warm. His performance has been questioned over the past few years as he has failed to win the big games. If the team comes up short again, there could be some changes for the program on the horizon.
