Unforgotten Rain

Chapter 01: A Chance Encounter

By SaftazPublished 10 months ago 3 min read

As the sun dipped toward the horizon, its warm, golden rays bathed the coastal town of San Rosario in a breathtaking palette of orange and pink. The ocean shimmered like a dream, its waves murmuring secrets to the tranquil shore. Among the vibrant blend of tourists and locals, a man of unique heritage, half-Japanese and half-Hispanic, stood out. With his long hair and a hint of weariness in his eyes, Joshwa, aged 30, found himself in this scenic haven, compelled to travel with his dedicated working crew.

Joshwa's day had been anything but ordinary. He had faced challenges and conquered obstacles, the weight of responsibility etched on his face. However, as the sun's farewell painted the world with its stunning hues, he took a moment to pause. He decided to seize this opportunity to savor the sunset, perched at a quiet corner table of a seaside cafe with a glass of wine in hand.

Unbeknownst to Joshwa, his day was about to take an unexpected turn, as the pages of fate were about to unveil a character in his own romance novel.

Just a stone's throw away from the shore, nestled amidst quaint buildings, there was a small café with a charming outdoor seating area. It was here that the fates wove their intricate web, as a curly-haired redhead named Skyler, aged 28, took a break from her bustling café duties to soak in the serene beauty of the sunset.

Unbeknownst to both of them, their paths were about to converge in the most unexpected way. Joshwa, with his quiet demeanor, approached Skyler, a smile playing on his lips, and casually remarked, "Tough day, huh?"

Skyler, caught off guard, glanced at the stranger who had initiated the conversation. Recognition flickered in her eyes, though she tried to hide it. She knew who he was, but he couldn't know that, not yet.

She returned the smile, a faint blush touching her cheeks, and replied, "Yeah, you could say that. The café gets pretty busy this time of day."

Their words flowed like a gentle stream, their banter easy and effortless, as if they were mere strangers exchanging pleasantries. Yet, there was an underlying tension, an unspoken truth lingering between them.

As the sun dipped lower on the horizon, casting long shadows, their conversation took an unexpected turn. Joshwa, trying to keep his identity concealed a bit longer, made a playful comment about the upcoming rainy season. He knew that both of them shared a deep love for the rain.

Skyler's eyes sparkled with a mixture of surprise and delight, and she couldn't help but smile and gaze at him. In that moment, as the first raindrop of their shared past fell between them, their connection intensified.

The sun finally set, leaving behind a sky painted with shades of indigo and purple. As the stars began to twinkle overhead, Joshwa and Skyler, bound by a secret they both cherished, continued to talk like strangers in the night.

suddenly Joshwa started staring at Skyler everything became silent, The tranquil moment was interrupted by a sudden, insistent ringing from Joshwa's phone. Startled, he quickly retrieved it from his pocket, glanced at the caller ID, and decided to switch it off, not wanting any distractions at this moment.

Turning back to Skyler, he was about to say something when she smiled politely and said, "Well, I have to get back to work. It was really nice meeting you." Her words were laced with a hint of feigned ignorance, keeping their shared history hidden.

Joshwa nodded with a hint of disappointment but managed to reply with a friendly tone, "Likewise. Maybe we'll bump into each other again sometime." They both knew that their paths had crossed for a reason, but for now, that reason remained a secret between them.
