#### Elizabethan Religious Settlement
One of Elizabeth's first challenges as queen was addressing the religious divisions that had plagued England since the Reformation. Her solution was the Elizabethan Religious Settlement, which aimed to establish a middle ground between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. The Act of Supremacy in 1559 reaffirmed the monarch's position as the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, and the Act of Uniformity established a standard form of worship.
Elizabeth's pragmatic approach to religion helped stabilize England. She was a Protestant but recognized the need for religious tolerance to maintain peace. Her policies allowed for a degree of religious diversity while reinforcing the Protestant faith, thus avoiding the extremes of her predecessors.
