"I'm so sorry, Sarah," he said, his voice breaking. "I had to leave to protect you. There are things I need to explain."
She pulled back slightly, looking into his eyes. "What happened, Ethan? Why did you leave?"
He took a deep breath, his expression pained. "I'm not just a writer, Sarah. I work for a covert organization, and my last mission put you in danger. I had to disappear to keep you safe. But I couldn't stay away. I had to find a way to tell you the truth."
Sarah listened in shock as he revealed his secret life. It was hard to believe, but the sincerity in his eyes convinced her. "Why didn't you tell me?" she asked, her voice filled with hurt.
