Smartystan
With the publishing house secured, Dr. Strong felt the cool feeling of victory. It wasn’t like he had vanquished an enemy. This was a quiet, calm way of understanding the business of publishing. This Monday morning, he organized an in-person meeting with the Founders. It took him about four hours to gather his notes and what he wanted to present to the board. As the captain of the ship, he knew he had to continue to fulfill his role. In creating a momentous occasion out of something mundane as a business meeting, Dr. Strong knew he could keep the party going. Business meetings seemed fun to the Founders. What Belinda wanted most from the work she performed lay in always beating herself. She didn’t consider any competitor as such and always looked at her work with the most critical eye. Now it was no different. She inspected the learned machines. Hours poured into making them as perfect as possible. To say she was obsessed would have been an understatement. Bordering on manic, she pushed her engineers to work nineteen hour days. It wasn’t like she had her plush bed from home to nap in, either. She slid under the desk and slept for four hours. Rocketing out of sleep, she sipped coffee and chewed espresso beans and returned to work.

The sun rose at just the zenith and shared its light and warmth with the attendees to one of the country-states’ greatest accomplishments: the graduation of two women who had been in a halfway house and found their passions for art design and communications. Mala and Sheltham looked on with sunglasses and cheered the graduates. With the knowledge they had months to go before being up on that stage, they looked at each other and grinned. After the ceremony, they walked into a pizza restaurant that fit their budgets.

Another three hundred and sixty four people crossed into the border of Smartystan. What didn’t bother Hector Vergara was the fact that they had escaped from states that were oppressive. He became agitated over the fact the ACA couldn’t help them to better understand that they would have given them refuge. Vergara looked down at his tablet and cursed. “We’re bleeding,” he said under his voice.
