Alexander the Great part 14

Part 14

By Daily ReadPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

Relationship with Aristotle

The relationship between Alexander and Aristotle was one of mutual respect and intellectual camaraderie. Aristotle’s role as a mentor and teacher went beyond mere instruction; he served as a guide and advisor, shaping the young prince’s character and worldview. Alexander’s later letters and actions indicate the lasting influence of his tutor, even as he embarked on his military campaigns.

However, their relationship was not without its complexities. As Alexander grew older and his ambitions expanded, there were instances of tension between the philosopher and his former pupil. Aristotle, a proponent of Greek superiority and traditional values, did not always agree with Alexander’s policies of cultural integration and his adoption of certain Persian customs. Despite these differences, the foundational education and the intellectual bond they shared remained a significant part of Alexander’s legacy.
