About this challenge
Whether it’s that pie is better than cake or that sandals are meant to be worn with socks, we all have something we feel particularly strongly about—and that others feel strongly against. We've partnered with Screen Shot to hear you make a case for your most unpopular opinion.
How to enter
Get creative and share your unpopular opinion—learn how to create a story here.
When submitting your story for review, select “Submit to a Challenge” and select “Unpopular Opinion.”
When your story has been approved, it will appear under Submissions on this page.
BONUS: share it on your social and tag us (@vocal_creators) and our sponsor Screen Shot (@screenshotmagazine) so we don’t miss it! Encourage your friends and fans to read it and give it a like on Vocal—it could give your story a leg up in judging.
About this Challenge
We’ve partnered with Screen Shot to bring you the Unpopular Opinion Challenge. We know there’s something you’re always holding in because you know how hard you’ll be judged by friends and strangers alike. It’s time to finally get it off your chest: Your most unpopular opinion.
Pink Starbursts are objectively the worst flavor? Winter > summer? Kiwi should be consumed with the skin on? Avocado toast is so 2018? The Beatles were just okay...
Whatever it might be, we want you to share why you feel so strongly about your unpopular opinion. Get creative to make your case, and tell us how others have reacted in the past.
We’ll be looking for entries that are convincing, and that make us (and our amazing panel of guest judges!) laugh.
Enter the Unpopular Opinion Challenge for a chance to win prizes of $500, $1,000, or $2,500. Plus, a feature in Screen Shot’s digital newsletter for the runner ups, and the grand prize winner will be published in Screen Shot’s summer 2020 print issue.

Travel Snaps Challenge Winners
Travel changes us — if we let its lessons in. It’s possible to wander the world, even to take pictures, with our eyes as good as closed, never opening to the new self that a new place might make of us. So many of the entries to our Travel Snaps challenge were by creators who really wanted to look at the world, and themselves, anew. They were all inspiring to read — and to see, because photography was an important part of this competition. To us, the ‘quality’ of the photographs wasn’t the point; it was that these images were yours. It was a reminder of how much more that can mean — certainly when it comes to personal essays — than widely available or AI images. We really loved seeing these snaps.

Poemosaurus Rex Challenge Winners
Hard to conceive, now, how extraordinary it would have been to find the bones of those terrible lizards in the earth — in a time before humans had conceived of anything other than a Great Chain of Being, a static creation. Yet long after Darwin they still have a hold over us, these creatures which are the ancestors of sparrows and seagulls. All hail the dinosaur! They are at once real and mythic, objects of science and objects of wonder, exhibitions in museums and children’s toys. No wonder Vocal Creators responded with such a variety of work to our Poemosaurus prompt.

Just a Minute Challenge Winners
Thanks again to Vocal Creator, Breezy, for suggesting the Just a Minute Challenge — one which you all interpreted in a wonderful variety of ways. Sometimes a minute can feel like an eternity, sometimes it can pass in the blink of an eye… to describe the passing of sixty seconds is no simple matter.
