About this challenge
Year after year, we make resolutions that so often amount to doing things for others. We vow to start working harder or longer hours, or do things that will impress or prove our worth to our peers, like losing weight, or earning more money. But this year, after nearly two years that have been hard on us all, we’re doing things differently. Welcome to the resolution revolution, in which we’re all pledging to be kinder to ourselves by prioritizing rest.
Together with our partners at Lull, we’re asking you to try something new this year: Make a New Year’s resolution that’s gentle on yourself. Whether you resolve to practice better sleep hygiene, meditate more often, ditch the late night for early mornings motto, or make time for journaling, tell us what promises you plan on making (and keeping!) to yourself to help your mind or your body relaxed and happy. No more pressure to achieve goals that feel so unattainable we drop them halfway through January - instead, let’s start 2022 relaxed and refreshed, together.
Judges
Amanda Liu is the social media buyer here at Lull who manages the paid media campaigns on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest). Amanda values the importance of getting great quality sleep and loves to spread the word about how convenient and comfortable upgrading to Lull is! When Amanda's not judging Vocal challenges, you can find her buying too many indoor plants or at the beach watching the sunset.
Sydney Wilhelm is Lull's marketing coordinator and has been training with Amanda to start taking on media buyer responsibilities in early 2022. Sydney loves walking and tries to stay active in her free time but loves to spend all day in bed whenever she has the chance. She is extremely grateful that she has a job that she genuinely enjoys and works at a company that shares the same core values as her.

Travel Snaps Challenge Winners
Travel changes us — if we let its lessons in. It’s possible to wander the world, even to take pictures, with our eyes as good as closed, never opening to the new self that a new place might make of us. So many of the entries to our Travel Snaps challenge were by creators who really wanted to look at the world, and themselves, anew. They were all inspiring to read — and to see, because photography was an important part of this competition. To us, the ‘quality’ of the photographs wasn’t the point; it was that these images were yours. It was a reminder of how much more that can mean — certainly when it comes to personal essays — than widely available or AI images. We really loved seeing these snaps.

Poemosaurus Rex Challenge Winners
Hard to conceive, now, how extraordinary it would have been to find the bones of those terrible lizards in the earth — in a time before humans had conceived of anything other than a Great Chain of Being, a static creation. Yet long after Darwin they still have a hold over us, these creatures which are the ancestors of sparrows and seagulls. All hail the dinosaur! They are at once real and mythic, objects of science and objects of wonder, exhibitions in museums and children’s toys. No wonder Vocal Creators responded with such a variety of work to our Poemosaurus prompt.

Just a Minute Challenge Winners
Thanks again to Vocal Creator, Breezy, for suggesting the Just a Minute Challenge — one which you all interpreted in a wonderful variety of ways. Sometimes a minute can feel like an eternity, sometimes it can pass in the blink of an eye… to describe the passing of sixty seconds is no simple matter.
