About this challenge
We can all agree that as a society, we’re at emotional capacity. So, in a time that’s stressful and overwhelming, we’d like to encourage you to help spread some love. Join the Love More Challenge by creating a story that includes one photo, one social media account, and one video or podcast episode that bring you joy. Tell us how you came across them, when they’ve helped pick you up, and why they bring you joy. Whether it’s a meme or an inspiring video, let’s highlight those digital content creators who work hard to make your day a little brighter, in the hopes that you might brighten someone else’s day too. Help us crowdsource the love.
How to enter
Create a story that includes three pieces of online media that bring you joy. One should be a social media account, one should be either a podcast episode or a video, and one should be a photo. Here’s how to create a story on Vocal. Learn how to embed your three choices of media here.
When submitting your story for review, select “Submit to a Challenge” and select “Love More.”
When your story has been approved, it will appear under Submissions on this page.
BONUS: share it on your social and tag us (@vocal_creators) so we don’t miss it! Encourage your friends and fans to read it and give it a like on Vocal—it could give your story a leg up in judging.
About this Challenge
On days when the world feels bleak, headlines are depressing, and we’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s impossible to just decide to be happy instead. But there are certain comforts we seek out that help remind us that there’s still some positivity in the world if we look for it. Whether it’s a funny video, a motivational podcast, or an Instagram account that inspires you, each of us has our own corner of the internet we turn to to find joy when we need it the most.
At a time when we feel so divided, the best thing we can do for ourselves and for each other is spread the love and make each other smile. So we want you to create a story and share the following: one social media account, one video or podcast episode, AND one meme or photo that make you genuinely happy. Tell us how you came across them, when they’ve helped you out, and why those particular digital rays of sunshine bring you joy. Be sure to embed the media so that your readers can enjoy a little pick-me-up along with you.

For your story to be eligible, it must be between 600 and 5,000 words, and adhere to our Community Guidelines. Stories published on Vocal and entered into the contest up until April 30, 2020 at 11:59 PM EST will be entered for consideration.
For the Love More Challenge, entries must include 1 image, 1 video or podcast episode, AND 1 social media account embedded within your story. Entries that do not include all three pieces of media as embeds will not be eligible to win.
To be eligible to win the grand prize, second place, or third place prizes, you must be over the age of 13 and residing in a country where Stripe is available at time of entry. A complete list of countries where Stripe is available can be found here—winners will need to have a Stripe account created and connected in order to receive the prizes. For this reason, entrants located outside of any of these 35 countries will not be eligible to win.

Travel Snaps Challenge Winners
Travel changes us — if we let its lessons in. It’s possible to wander the world, even to take pictures, with our eyes as good as closed, never opening to the new self that a new place might make of us. So many of the entries to our Travel Snaps challenge were by creators who really wanted to look at the world, and themselves, anew. They were all inspiring to read — and to see, because photography was an important part of this competition. To us, the ‘quality’ of the photographs wasn’t the point; it was that these images were yours. It was a reminder of how much more that can mean — certainly when it comes to personal essays — than widely available or AI images. We really loved seeing these snaps.

Poemosaurus Rex Challenge Winners
Hard to conceive, now, how extraordinary it would have been to find the bones of those terrible lizards in the earth — in a time before humans had conceived of anything other than a Great Chain of Being, a static creation. Yet long after Darwin they still have a hold over us, these creatures which are the ancestors of sparrows and seagulls. All hail the dinosaur! They are at once real and mythic, objects of science and objects of wonder, exhibitions in museums and children’s toys. No wonder Vocal Creators responded with such a variety of work to our Poemosaurus prompt.

Just a Minute Challenge Winners
Thanks again to Vocal Creator, Breezy, for suggesting the Just a Minute Challenge — one which you all interpreted in a wonderful variety of ways. Sometimes a minute can feel like an eternity, sometimes it can pass in the blink of an eye… to describe the passing of sixty seconds is no simple matter.
