The New Year Replacing The Old Year

The year 2020 came in with a ticking bomb that the people were not expecting. The damage that it brought with it spread in every single direction. This bomb that I am referring to was not your average bomb. When this bomb went off it carried a sickness that spread in every single direction. This year is heading out to make room for the new year to come in. When this year heads out it is leaving behind a great deal of damage. It is leaving behind one of the biggest trails of sadness that could be walked. This year is taking a great deal of loved and cherished people along with it.

The memory of each person who was lost this year is here for years to come. The year was rough for all of us in one way or another. The songs on the playlist that I have chosen are the songs that I feel describe this year. They are songs for memories of some and songs for emotions felt. I am going to start this list off with the song Mad World by Gary Jules. I picked this song because it felt like it really fit this year. This song is a very deep song that really lets the pain out. This second song got picked because it sings out the sadness that I felt came in at the start of the year. The name of the song in the second spot is Dreamer by Toni Childs.

In the third spot is a song called Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House. Following very closely behind it in the fourth place is Angels On The Moon by Thriving Ivory. Coming in the Fifth spot is the song To Build A Home by The Cinematic Orchestra. This song that I am mentioning next was one of the favorites of someone I knew. I know that every time I hear this song it will carry a good memory of that person to my mind. The name of the song is Into The Mystic by Van Morrison. Coming up for the next song in the seventh space on the list is another very powerful song called Dust In The Wind by Kansas. This is a song that should remind us all how short time can truly be. We are not promised a certain amount of time. We can each be gone at any moment.

The eighth song on the list got picked because there were many who lost their husbands or wives this year. I also picked this song because it is a song meant as a memory of a favorite song for another person that I knew. The name of the song is When I'm Gone by Joey and Rory. These next two songs are at a tie. They are both very strong and beautifully written songs. The Sound Of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel is the first song of the two songs. The second song of the two songs is Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.

In the eleventh spot is the song Put A Candle In The Window by Creedence Clearwater Revival. The twelfth song on the list is Everybody Hurts by R.E.M. I chose this song because there were a lot of tears shed this year. Each of these songs that got added to my list for this year was for different reasons. They all have a sadness to them or meaning behind them. Each of the songs got chosen because this was a year of great loss. We might be moving into a new year but for many of us, the pain from this year will always be in our memories. As you are all out celebrating this new year that is replacing the old do not forget to remember those who did not make it through the last year.

This year might be replaced but the damage left will never be forgotten. For those of you who have lost someone this year, I am thinking of each of you. Remember that you are not alone. The best we can each do is remember those that we loved through music and memories. If you have another creative way of remembering someone this use that. My thoughts are with each of you. Take the time to create your own playlist for this year. The songs might be painful or carry memories but they do help. Music can also help to bring good memories and not just the sad ones. I hope that the songs that I have mentioned can help some others as they have helped me.
