Nestled in a narrow alleyway, the bakery stood as a sanctuary for those seeking solace and sustenance. The owner, a woman with fiery red curls and piercing emerald eyes moved with graceful precision as she worked her magic on the dough.
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, the aroma of warm bread grew stronger, casting a spell on unsuspecting passersby and drawing them in. They came from different walks of life, but within the bakery walls, they were bound by their shared love for the delectable bread.
Amidst lively conversations and laughter, they waited patiently in line for their turn, eager to experience this simple yet complex creation. And when they finally took a bite, it was like an awakening. The bread was a symphony of flavors and textures, filling them with warmth and joy. At that moment, the hustle and bustle of the outside world melted away, leaving only a sense of community and comfort.
As the last slivers of sunlight vanished, the satisfied customers bid farewell to the bakery with full stomachs and grateful hearts. As they made their way back into the bustling city streets, they couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging and warmth from the unassuming little shop. "As long as this place stands, we'll always have hope and love in our hearts," one man said with a smile. The group nodded in agreement before going their separate ways, carrying with them the sweet memories and full stomachs from the bakery that served more than just food.

Pankhurst is a name well known to the history of women’s suffrage. Who hasn't heard the name Emmaline Pankhurst, founder of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), an all-women organisation campaigning for the right to vote? The group that helped to achieve the right to vote for women in Great Britain and Ireland in 1918. Some know of her daughter Christabel, both being honoured by the Pankhurst memorial in Victoria Palace Gardens, London, right next to the UK Parliament buildings. Sylvia Pankhurst is notably not included in the monument. Why? Because she split with the WSPU to campaign against Britain's entry into First World War.

2023 The Year of Women and Fridging
2023 was an incredible year for women in film. Between Beyonce and Taylor’s concert movies, Barbie and 1 single woman getting nominated for best director at the Oscars there was a lot to celebrate. But just like with anything the universe seeks balance and in 2023 we nerds also experienced something on page and screen that we should have evolved out of decades ago. In the year of Barbie we had not 1, but 2 incidents of fridging in the comic book universe. Both came from Marvel and both are inexcusable. I would love to celebrate how far representation in this field has come, really I would. But I can not do that if we are still making the same mistakes. I am not going to celebrate that there is now less sexual assault in comics. I am not going to celebrate that fridging is less common. I am not going to celebrate that women are infantilized less often in comics. I will not celebrate less. Not in 2024 when every grown person on the planet should know better. I will not be celebrating less. I will celebrate when women are ALWAYS treated like human beings, fictional or not.
